The Immortal Piaf

Three Muses challenge this week is "Say it with Music." Where to start?  Who doesn't love music? I'm told there are benighted souls who seldom listen to music; how do they survive??

Well, after some thought I decided to make a tribute to Edith Piaf, the "Little Sparrow." A woman of consuming talent, consumed in turn by her passion for the lives and loves described in her art. Song lyrics of love and loss, recreated as the narrative of her life.  Reality impinged on her world in the form of brutal disabilities, alcoholism, drug addiction, grief and pain on a monumental scale. Yet, a true artist, she kept singing--and loving.

She was a phenomena, an incarnate Act of the Goddess. There will never be another like her.

3SIXTY5 for July 6: What Is Your Passion?

Mine, obviously, is art. And books. And gardening, music, ballet, etc.  This is a topic I could pursue endlessly. It reminds me of the Robert Louis Stevenson poem:

The world is so full of a number of things,
I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings
.

With the posting of today's collage, I am happy as a Queen to state:
The day departs with weary tread
And I am delighted to be going to bed!

3SIXTY5 for Monday May 24: A Memory of Music

It always amazes me how powerfully music can evoke a memory. I also love the graphic and decorative possibilities of printed musical notes. So I attempted to combine the concept and the graphics in this piece. It is a bit of a hodge-podge. Maybe I'll rework it at some point. Definitely not tonight!

3SIXTY5 for Sunday: Home

Home is where the heart is, and where the art is. I love being home, I would gladly hardly ever leave if I didn't have to. I'm just fine hanging out with my artwork, books, music, garden, friendly kitchen. If I didn't have to go to work, I'd have time to entertain more, which I love to do. And really get the garden beautiful again. And, of course, spend hours each day in my studio. I know it's a cliche, but there really is "no place like home." I hope you feel the same. Cheers!
